Partners Healthcare System founded by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and Semedy AG, a provider of knowledge management and decision support technology, announced today

that they have entered into a Development and Commercialization Agreement to jointly create and use a next-generation Knowledge Management System (KMS).

This KMS - of which significant parts already have been put toproductive use at Partners Healthcare hospitals this summer - will facilitate the consistent and centralized structuring, editing, and publishing of clinical information from various sources, thereby helping Partners Healthcare to deliver better care more efficiently. This collaboration brings together valuable and synergistic assets: PHS contributes its know-how and experience with knowledge engineering, clinical decision support, and applied clinical informatics, and Semedy contributes powerful semantic technologies and latest reasoning engines for intelligent knowledge management.

PHS expects the jointly developed KMS will help to manage and maintain
the increasing amount of clinical knowledge in an efficient and systematic way. "We are very excited about the collaboration with Semedy. KMS enables us to consolidate and expand our clinical knowledge management activities, ultimately contributing to improved clinical decisions and care. KMS is also available via Semedy to other healthcare systems and provider groups, thereby contributing to knowledge management efforts on a broader scale", said Dr. Roberto A. Rocha, leader of the knowledge management group at Partners.

Semedy has the global and exclusive commercialization rights for this clinical KMS for public and private clients in the U.S. and overseas. Hans-Peter Schnurr, CEO of Semedy, commented: "We are honored that Partners Healthcare, nationally renowned for clinical excellence, has selected Semedy as a technology partner. We believe our web-based solution is a new category of KMS, addressing unmet needs of a huge market, with perfect timing and qualifying for U.S. Meaningful Use requirements."
